Puritat Deangharm
International Thai artist Puritat Deangharm creates striking large-scale works of portraiture art. Having studied art at Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Puritat's interests and influences have been with how pop-culture merged with high-art in the 1960's.
Like pop-artists such as Lichtenstein, Puritat's inspiration comes from comic books and graphic art imagery. Inspired by both the silver age of comics from the west and Japanese Manga, Puritat layers copies of these stories as the background to his central painted portrait.
The portraits he paints are often female and whether faced directly out to the viewer or in profile, there appears to be a strong, determined edge to them; perhaps they reflect a character from the comic strips on which they are placed.
We are excited to introduce this intriguing, monumental contemporary portraiture work that has a distinct urban, pulp-fiction edge.
