JJ Adams
JJ Adams’ artistic vision in which he draws upon a multitude of influences combining a mixed media and new media approach, has earned him the reputation of being the most important and recognisable contemporary pop artist today.
Born in Britain, JJ Adams emigrated to South Africa as a child and after a rebellious school-life he went on to study Graphic Design at Cape College, Cape Town. During his studies, he also took up a part-time job in a tattoo studio and would spend a lot of time drawing designs that would later have a significant influence on his work.
‘Pop culture has massively influenced my work because with pop culture everything is bright and bold and in your face all the time. You can’t ignore it, it’s there’
After moving back to the UK in the mid-nineties and working in graphic design, JJ Adams eventually managed to commit to working on his art full-time and became a finalist in the 2016 Fine Art Trade Guild’s ‘Best Selling Published Artist’ category.
Combining processes including screen-printing, stencilling, digital matte painting and photography, JJ Adams' art draws upon both popular culture and topical issues to create his own distinct artistic view of the world around us.
Be it film culture, celebrity culture or the current political climate, we always look forward to receiving JJ Adams prints and his new releases to the gallery to discover how he has transformed these subjects into visually striking pieces of art.
